TCL has been nibbling around the extremities of the UK TV market for a while now, mainly touting low-cost budget screens, but with the C715K and its step-up stablemate, the C815, it’s beginning to capture the attention of enthusiasts. So what are you paying for, exactly, with this 8K TV? Well, a good chunk of it is its higher resolution and better AIPQ Processor that we’ll cover below, but also the quantum dot filter and Full Array Local Dimming Mini LED lighting that has hundreds of contrast control zones. Specs-wise there’s a lot to like here. When powering up you have to wait for the Android loading screen to clear, and the Freeview EPG is slow to populate. It just doesn’t seem as fast or silky smooth in operation as more expensive models. Picture Quality & SoundHDR ( High Dynamic Range) is a new feature of 4K Ultra HD TVs. It refers to the high dynamic range and its ability to deliver more colors, more contrast levels, and increased brightness. HDR is basically an upgrade of the 4K or Ultra HD format. In fact, the only problems we’ve had with the TV’s performance are with its motion processing (some judder on medium settings) and its upscaling – especially when feeding it HD or sub-HD content. Watching the new Masters of the Universe animated show on Netflix had serious issues with its motion until we simply turned off the motion processing from the menu, while HD shows like Kim’s Convenience looked more like a decent 4K image rather than a beautifully upscaled 8K image. On the other hand, when it comes to bigger TVs, Hisense is more expensive. Mid-sized and large TCL TVs offer a better picture and better overall features for a lower price than Hisense. Forget about missing all-important details when the on-screen action is hectic. Instead, TCL’s proprietary MEMC (Motion Estimation/Motion Compensation) algorithm can take control, smoothing out movies and sports broadcasts. Blur and motion trails will be a thing of the past, as you enjoy crystal clear viewing experiences, every time.
