About this deal

HDR performance is on the right side of good for this class of screen. I measured peak brightness at 400 nits, which is just about enough to render specular highlights and add believable depth to images. Dolby Vision manages tone mapping on Netflix content. Thanks to machine-learning algorithms, AIPQ Engine processors can understand human visual perception. They use real-time audiovisual optimization to adjust image quality according to the genre (music, movie, game, etc.) and ambient viewing conditions. AndroidTV’s hands-free voice controls provide complete flexibility. Without leaving your chair, you can choose content, launch apps, turn on your set, switch inputs, search for movies, and much more. It’s simple, user-friendly, and incredibly convenient. You can enable or disable voice control by switching on and off the dedicated button behind your TV. Our thumbs are raised. The C717 is bold and bright, offering reassuringly crisp definition and vibrant hues, much as we’d expect to see from a QLED display.

Select country/region - Costco UK

TCL has been nibbling around the extremities of the UK TV market for a while now, mainly touting low-cost budget screens, but with the C715K and its step-up stablemate, the C815, it’s beginning to capture the attention of enthusiasts. The sound menus are used to obtain the best sound settings to optimize audio output. The sound menus can be set up at every broadcasting type and every input source. TV placement: Select where the TV is located. Press ▲/▼ to set your TV placement, and then press OK.The TCL’s 8-Series (2020) and 6-Series (2019) come with QLED screens, while Hisense models are more oriented towards LED and OLED technology. On the other hand, Hisense’s ARM Cortex processors raise video streaming quality to a higher level. However, this is something that the previously mentioned processor already does, so you won’t be wrong if you choose either of these two. Since Hisense TVs are Android-based, they have a more intuitive interface than Roku. So we are on the side of Hisense on this one. Even though both of these brands offer similar features and performance, there are still some differences between them.

So what are you paying for, exactly, with this 8K TV? Well, a good chunk of it is its higher resolution and better AIPQ Processor that we’ll cover below, but also the quantum dot filter and Full Array Local Dimming Mini LED lighting that has hundreds of contrast control zones. Specs-wise there’s a lot to like here. When powering up you have to wait for the Android loading screen to clear, and the Freeview EPG is slow to populate. It just doesn’t seem as fast or silky smooth in operation as more expensive models. Picture Quality & SoundHDR ( High Dynamic Range) is a new feature of 4K Ultra HD TVs. It refers to the high dynamic range and its ability to deliver more colors, more contrast levels, and increased brightness. HDR is basically an upgrade of the 4K or Ultra HD format. In fact, the only problems we’ve had with the TV’s performance are with its motion processing (some judder on medium settings) and its upscaling – especially when feeding it HD or sub-HD content. Watching the new Masters of the Universe animated show on Netflix had serious issues with its motion until we simply turned off the motion processing from the menu, while HD shows like Kim’s Convenience looked more like a decent 4K image rather than a beautifully upscaled 8K image. On the other hand, when it comes to bigger TVs, Hisense is more expensive. Mid-sized and large TCL TVs offer a better picture and better overall features for a lower price than Hisense. Forget about missing all-important details when the on-screen action is hectic. Instead, TCL’s proprietary MEMC (Motion Estimation/Motion Compensation) algorithm can take control, smoothing out movies and sports broadcasts. Blur and motion trails will be a thing of the past, as you enjoy crystal clear viewing experiences, every time.

The secret to the TV’s success lies in its Mini LED lighting that can accurately control how much light is going to any one portion of the screen at a given time and how much of the screen’s LED zones need to be turned off. That gives an LED almost OLED levels of control over the contrast and reduces issues like blooming that you’d find on other LED-LCD TVs.TV manufacturers are aware that integrated speakers don’t produce good sound for everyone. That is why all modern TVs have some sort of audio output to external audio devices. By using these outputs, you can connect your TV to an external high-quality sound system. ONKYO speakers, specially designed for sound clarity and precision allow a more realistic Dolby Atmos sound experience at home. The picture menus are used to adjust the picture settings according to your preference and the type of content you are watching. The picture menus can be set up at every broadcasting type and every input source.

While watching movies, with Dolby Audio technology, the crystal clarity function and sound spatialization give you sharper, more nuanced sound with great detail and richness for more realistic entertainment. Image presets include Low Power, and Smart HDR which lends an HDR-like lift to SDR content. The latter is effectively the Standard default, suitable for most shows. TCL C715 review: Sound quality TCL is top-tier screen maker with impressive technical resources, but until now we’ve only seen budget tellies from the brand. With the C715 QLED, it’s starting to flex its muscles. It seems someone forgot to tell the C715K that it’s supposed to be a budget TV. The set is brighter and more dynamic than you would expect given the price. Connections comprise three HDMI inputs, all of which are 4K 60fps capable. One also has HDMI ARC (but not eARC – in fact, there are no HDMI 2.1 morsels on the menu).Like the 6-Series before it, the 6-Series 8K uses Roku TV as its smart platform. While there’s nothing different about the version of Roku TV on the 8K TV and any other Roku device, the UI does look pretty nice spread out across all those pixels and it’s always great to see the plethora of supported streaming apps at your fingertips.
