Age. Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old. Sea Elves are generally distrustful of other racesand will typically hide away from them. Many races do not respect nature and the seas and are often seen as destroyers. While other Elves might view Sea Elves as being a bit “wild” and “unrefined”, they are not savages and are simply knowledgable of those things outside of the typical book learning you might observe from a High Elf for example. Sea elves fell in love with the wild beauty of the ocean in the earliest days of the multiverse. While other elves traveled from realm to realm, sea elves navigated the currents and explored the waters of many worlds. Today these elves can be found wherever oceans exist, as well as in the Elemental Plane of Water.
Aquatic elves are of elven ancestry, though with enough differences to qualify as a distinct ancestry. They resemble elves with bluish or greenish tinted skin, with long, webbed fingers and toes, and visible gills on their ribs. They also have nictitating membranes that protect their eyes. Still, the doctors of the time did what they could to alleviate disease, the best using herbs and spices as treatments. While some diseases were treated with a degree of efficiency, others simply were beyond explanation and cure. What follows are a few of the most bizarre diseases of those times. Aquatic elves held promises sacred and would rather die than fail to complete something they had sworn to do. If they died in the process, their kin took over the responsibility to complete it. The slightest implication that an aquatic elf wouldn't keep his word was deeply offensive. However, promises received from non-elves were highly suspect, both because aquatic elves knew that other races won't honor the promises of their dead and because only other elves had the lifespan to complete any serious task. Darkvision and cold resistance are both great additions to the Paladin, and Friend of the Sea allows you to put your ample Charisma to good use to deter threats from aquatic beasts. Fey Ancestry provides resistance to common charm effects (paladins already get immunity to fear). As a whole, this produces a versatile and durable paladin.
