About this deal

Synchronized audio and image output to ProRes and H.264 (no post-processing or third-party tools required) Anton - I came across your project last year after I had started on my own journey to build a Super 8 scanner. Your design is very impressive, and after spending a number of months playing with a Geneva Wheel drive I have also decided to go with a stepper motor drive. It would help me considerably to understand your design if you could describe the film path through the various rollers etc. I think I can see what happens, but I'm not sure what the item you label "Wheelmover large" does. I suspect it's to manage tension on the film. Can you please explain? Regards

High Dynamic Range Scanning Single-pass color and B&W 2-flash HDR scanning for the best capture of print film shadow detail This is a more professional option for people who shoot a lot of 35mm. It comes with Silverfast software, which is very advanced and requires a bit of practice. With some work, though, it provides excellent sharpness, dynamic range, and color. Flatbed scanners are traditionally thought of as a more versatile but less finessed alternative to a dedicated film scanner. However, the V600 is impressively designed to cater to film photographers. Naturally, it can scan photos and documents, but it includes holders for 35mm film, 35mm slides, and 120/220 medium format film. When a relative of mine passed, she left behind a lot of 8mm film reels. I figured too many to bring to a copy shop to digitise them. I searched the internet and found several solutions - from ready to use copy machines to dyi projects. However, non of them fulfilled my requirements, but my curiosity was sparked and I thought of making one by myself. Once you have everything set up, you simply insert the film into the slot at the top of the machine.Originally I printed everything in PLA. But after several hours of scanning I realised that the temperature of the stepper gets too high and some parts started deforming. He was talking about “quality”, not resolution. And as you say yourself, a proper camera will be miles ahead of a cheesy little CMOS sensor with cheap colour filters and electronics, and real optics instead of a moulded plastic lens. The sort of camera the Pi uses isn’t intended for actual video work that matters. People go through such lengths (aka money) to produce an aesthetic that is so much more appealing the the format that is innate to film. You can try to imitate the subtleties and randomness in film from a digital source, but put that in front of an audience, and it looks looks cheap and artificial. https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005003482247510.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2deu&spm=a2g0o.9042311.0.0.21a34c4d4e4Dmf Besides, grain is only one part of “the film look”. You also need heavy motion blur, slightly wonky optics with all sorts of focusing issues and limited depth of field, and a low frame rate between 18-24 fps. It is characteristic of 16mm film production, and that is what the Hollywood film producers are after. 8mm film is a step down from this, and very rarely used in actual movies because it’s just too gritty and soft.

First comparisons between a "professional copy" and the built here looks promising, but I believe that especially the camera settings still can be improved a lot.

Add the photo interruptor with the 2 M2 screws, the stepper with the 4 M3x6mm screws and mount the plate to the box. The M3x20 screws have to go through the mount plate, the spool arms and the box.

That’s the nominal color temperature, which depends on the actual voltage you run it and other manufacturing variations. It’s only an approximation. Digitizing film is a tedious process that becomes a lot more fun if you spend more of your time building a digitizer and less time actually working working with old film. [Heikki Hietala] has been at it for years and his Kotokino Mark IV film scanner is a masterpiece of simple machine building. Host computer ready-to-use and pre-configured with Microsoft Windows and Lasergraphics Motion Picture Film Scanning System software featuring: Your approach sounds very interesting- please let me know how it goes from time to time if you don’t mind.PCIe slot available for customer-supplied high-speed connectivity or storage (e.g. 10GbE/40GbE NICs, Fibre Channel, RAID HBA, etc.). Arducam has a great variety of lenses, maybe there is one that can donthe job without the additional macro lens? Pixl-latr offers a number of 3D-printed parts to help you get the most out of the product, such as holders designed specifically for certain sizes of slides. You'll get the best results from a macro lens, but again, if you don't have one, a decent 24-70mm will work.
