About this deal

Audio is included for all versions in English 5.1 and 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio with optional subtitles in English SDH. There isn’t much of a difference between the three versions in this capacity. Dialogue is always clean and clear, only occasionally slipping due to being overcrowded with noise, particularly during the final battle at the end. Sound effects have plenty of impact, especially ambient moments. When Ash is being chased through the woods or moving through the cemetery, speaker to speaker activity is appropriately showcased. Score has plenty of heft to it and mixes in well without distortion issues. There are also some nice uses of LFE, which pop up from time to time, particularly during the end battle. world and Army of Darkness has the right ingredients for terror and mayhem. The score has enormous fun with the time-travel an actor seems born to play a role (for being so perfect in the part) and this is one of those rare examples of the casting being pitch-perfect Madness) did a great job bringing his Evil Dead film trilogy to its conclusion with this cult classic. Star Bruce Campbell is perfect as from the standard 4K collectors edition. Each disc has outstanding key artwork and this edition is clearly a great release for fans.

As mentioned above, the latter features a 4K scan from the interpositive. There’s been some grousing online about why only the theatrical version is on a 4K disc, but, as they say, that was decided by folks well above my pay grade.

Army of Darkness is the time-traveling third entry in the Evil Dead horror franchise created by Sam Raimi. Executive Low-end support could use a boost via an audio refresh. It’s generally dull, even murky when peaked. The best happens during the finale as gunpowder bombs go off, producing a rumble, even if it’s a bland one. Extras

It was such an aftermarket success that Universal allowed Anchor Bay Entertainment to release a director’s cut of it on DVD... many times over. Personally, I prefer the theatrical version more than the director’s cut. The original ending, which involves Ash accidentally sleeping too long and waking up in a dead world, just doesn’t seem to jive with the thrill ride that came before it. It may have been a more befitting end for a “loud-mouth braggart” like Ash, but it clashes with the film’s overall tone, so I’m glad that it was changed. One thing’s for sure though: if that decision hadn’t been made, we might not have gotten the Ash vs Evil Dead TV series. So yes, I’ll take the theatrical version please.

(I’m awaiting confirmation of the exact contents from the studio.) But it does NOT include a Blu-ray of the DE itself, nor are Blu-rays of the Theatrical and SLV versions included. The DE is available separately on Blu-ray, and obviously the Theatrical Cut Blu-ray was included in the original 4-Movie Collection from last year. Universal mandated a happier ending rather than the original cataclysm, and while the latter is ironically funny, it’s a rare case where that choice doesn’t mangle the message or the theme. Ash delights in blasting a witch across his store’s aisles, swooning the girl in a pitifully non-epic, tepidly cliché kiss that embraces the asinine male ideal Army of Darkness built. It’s too ridiculous to be real, yet if all of Army of Darkness was a figment in Ash’s mind, the ludicrous confidence he shows fits right in.
