I learned some things about myself while listening to this audiobook. Realising that I've probably inherited my predisposition to anxiety was a rather unwelcome insight, but I can't say I was very surprised. Let's just say that some of the behaviours and internal monologues described in this book sounded awfully familiar. However, learning the terminology was quite useful, as I'm now better able to identify and conceptualise what I'm actually doing (I'm very accomplished at mind-reading and fortune-telling, for example, 'should' is my second name, and I certainly have a PhD in rumination and anticipatory anxiety), and can hopefully influence my own thinking more. You can read it in one sitting, and it has more wisdom in each sentence than any book I've ever read. You can read it in one sitting. Whether I've read it a hundred times or not, I still find new ideas and inspiration in this little guide. It's very funny. When you keep learning and growing, you start to see things in books in a new way. That's what I like about reading books again. The content doesn't change, but you do. You become better. This book talks about anxiety in an approachable way to help children accept its presence and establish parameters around it, like putting anxious thoughts into a “worry box.” Books provide information about the nature of overthinking and anxiety, including their causes, symptoms, and underlying mechanisms.
