This game really needs a 1-3 level demo so we can see how well it works, both in motion detection and the HD rumble. And they need to make it 4 player, 1 Joycon each, for some serious chaos. Though I suppose 4 player co-op would cover the entire screen. I wonder if they could program it to see who's paddle got there first? During every console’s lifespan, there will be games that are little more than tech demos: small games that are meant to show off a certain aspect or feature of a console and nothing more. Enter Boom Ball: Boost Edition. Originally conceived as a game for the Xbox One Kinect, it has now made it’s way to Nintendo’s newest wonder, the Switch, ostensibly to show off its motion controls. Is it worth springing for? Or should this ball boom alone? I realize that doesn’t make any sense, but I digress. This time round we added the lifting spaced to the front of Boom Ball to shoot the balls higher and further. The slight side wind did make the game harder, but Imogen kept catching the occasional one. Finding the balls afterwards was a lot easier with much less obstacles to lose them behind.

Mercifully we still have Virtual Air Guitar, a company that have promised to continue to develop for the Kinect for as long as fans continue to buy their games. That brings us to their latest release, Boom Ball 3 for Kinect. This developer has gifted Kinect fans with a wide range of interesting games, such as Air Guitar Warrior, Beatsplosion, and more. I personally stand by FRU as the best game for the Kinect, but that’s not to say that Virtual Air Guitar doesn’t produce some great experiences, because they do. Boom Ball 3 for Kinect is a refresh in comparison to what we’ve seen before. There’s some new and interesting features present, such as three new difficulty tiers that offer different gameplay speeds, and an improved two-player mode, but much of what’s on offer is more of the same. If you don’t have friend, you’ll be in control of both paddles. Having spent a fair amount of time playing this way, I constantly found the experience extremely awkward. Should your ball be on the left side of the level, the camera would pan left, however your right paddle’s center point is always static, so it frequently made my right paddle drift away. The same happened when my ball would go to the right side of the level. I never truly found a flow where I wasn’t struggling to keep the paddles pointed where I wanted, often times catching myself with a Joy-Con pointed to the left, but my screen paddle showing all the way to the right. Thankfully the game offers a touch screen option as an alternative if you’re playing in handheld mode.
