About this deal

One more thing to note is that the OSSC doesn’t pass audio through the HDMI/DVI connector. An add-on board is being made available, however I didn’t find this to be an issue on any of my displays: My TV’s allowed me to simply choose audio from a different source. I really hope OLED ends up being the true replacement for CRTs' picture quality. It's only taken about 15 years!

GameCube games should probably appear sharper on the Wii U HDMI vs the Wii's component output. (similar to the GameCube's original component output which has usually been considered fairly clean) The OSSC and the Framemeister, despite the Framemeister having a frame buffer, time their output signals with the input. This means that when the mode of the game changes, the signal drops, and your television or monitor needs to resync with the upscaler after the upscaler resyncs with the source. This all means that switching between 240p and 480i can have some heavy delays. It has no input lag whatsoever. Its awesome at 240p line doubling to 480p or 720p if you got a compatible display aintegrated scanline support. Selecting VISUAL_SET from the menu will reveal an AUTO_SCALER setting. The available options here are OFF, GAME and VIDEO. If OFF is selected then the Framemeister will allow for the scaling to be manually adjusted across both axes via the H_SCALER and V_SCALER options. Otherwise, it applies the following presets:

The scanlines feature is a neat addition to the many options on this scaler, but it's not something I really wanted, so I can't say much on it.

First, some screenshots. This are taken from Resident Wiivil 4: http://imgur.com/a/6jhO2. I chose these screenshots because they contain text, so they should be better for comparing sharpness. I love the OSSC and I’m very happy I bought it. It’s become a handy tool I use on a regular basis and when I eventually find a compatible, low-lag 4K TV, I think it will be the preferred scaler to use. I just wish there was some kind of “compatibility test” people could run before buying it to make sure linetriple mode will work with their display. Either that, or a cheap, low-lag device we can put between it and the display to allow compatibility. edit - read one of them was an Amiga Cd32. Never had one so I don’t know if it has optional 60hz modes, probably not but I’ll leave the following info in the post anyways just in case. The Producer profiles are 1080p 4x240 and so not have any of my custom masking. This is for youtubers that want to crop the games manually in a video editor.
