About this deal

For those who not sure what these numbers are. These are the numbers you see written on the binoculars. Either on the focus knob or on the body of the binocular. For example, the binoculars I am comparing here are the and Nikon Prostaff 3s 8×42, Nikon Prostaff 3s 10×42, Nikon Prostaff 7s 8×42 and Nikon Prostaff 7s 10×42 models. So those two numbers stand for the magnification and the objective lens diameter respectively. Speaking of the FOV, that of the Prostaff 7s stands at 119 m at 1000 m while the 10×42 offers 108 m at 1000 m. By comparison, Prostaff 3s 8×42 has a field of view of 126 m at 1000m and 122 m at 1000m for the 10×42 model.

Generally, these binoculars perform well in broad daylight. You will hardly see any noticeable image quality distortion. There’s minimal fringing with these, only a mild bit of chromatic aberration–something that most casual users will never distress about. I was also astonished that the brightness in the Prostaff 7s series was so much more noticeable than the Prostaff 3s’s binoculars. Fog Proof /Water Proof Due to this, the images you’ll see with Prostaff 7s will be much brighter than those of the 3s. This feature also boosts its nighttime prformance. However, even though both 8x and 10x 42mm binoculars are able to capture the same amount of light, they will have different capabilities in terms of the image brightness: Larger 5.25mm exit pupils in the ocular lenses on the 8x42 Vortex Razor HD versus the 4.2mm ones on the 10x42 Vortex Razor UHDThis general-purpose pair of daylight binoculars is both well-constructed and affordable. Feeling well balanced when gripped, the Nikon Prostaff 3S 10x42 is eminently suitable for outdoor use by virtue of it providing O-ring sealing to prevent any ingress of water plus a nitrogen-purged construction to prevent fogging.

With its wider view, an 8x42 binocular is best at shorter to mid-distances, especially if you need to follow small, fast or erratic moving objects like birds or other smaller mammals. A central folding mechanism allows us to adjust the binocular to best suit the distance between our own eyes, with a large ridged focus wheel making for easy and intuitive operation. While performance isn’t quite up there with Nikon’s own premium Monarch HG range in terms of clarity and sharpness, and we did notice the odd instance of purple fringing in contrast-y situations, it’s certainly ‘good enough’. In conclusion this is a versatile and well performing device offering very fair value for money. Whilst not always the case and it varies between brands, 10x42 binoculars can be a little more expensive than the equivalent 8x42 model from the same brand in the same series.Phase coatings are applied on the roof prisms to enhance the optical quality, brightness and contrast. Clearly Nikon Prostaff 7s produces high optical quality images than the 3s counterpart Objective lens Diameter The ED II 10x42's FOV (104m) is actually wider than the Zeiss Victory HT (110m), Swarovski EL SV(112m) and the Leica Ultravid(112m) 10x42s! (the "alpha" bins should be sharper at the edges though). The lens caps are also of regrettable quality. Not a big thing, but neither is it understandable to crimp on quality for something as doable as caps. About the Company This means that for your hobby or subject, it's worth thinking about what the best combination of magnification of objective lens size will work for you.

Prostaff 3s wider field of view offers an advantage in that it helps you spot things more easily without moving your optics equipment too much. Overall, the Prostaff 7s and 3s are suitable for a wide range of applications. Whether you’re going sightseeing in the Grand Canyon, attending a live concert or watching a football match, these optics equipment will really come in handy. Similarities and differences SimilaritiesSometimes you might not get the best view while looking through the Prostaff 7s binoculars as compared to 3s binoculars when you are using your glasses due to shorter eye relief. Prism Type In particular, their Prostaff line of binoculars is a favorite for many outdoorsy individuals. In this, we’ll review two of the Prostaff binoculars: 3s and 7s. Live Science tests a huge and diverse range of products, from Legos to binoculars, and from exercise bikes to dehumidifiers. Depending on just what we're reviewing, a product will be subjected to an array of different tests relevant to its purpose and use. This may include in-lab benchmarks, extensive use in our test centers or thorough road-testing in real-world conditions. Both Prostaff 7s and 3s have 8x and 10x magnification power. However, it’s the 7s that give you more variety when it comes to the objective lens. You can choose from an objective diameter of 30 mm or 42mm. The Prostaff 3s is only available in 42mm diameter.
