Over the last few months he has disarmed packed rooms of rowdy concert goers, leaving them silent as they hold fast to every syllable sung. A deluxe "expanded" version of the album is due to be released on 10 November 2023, featuring the previously unreleased song " Now and Then", the final "new" original single by the group.

Get Back’ was described as the album version in the US liner notes, although it was in fact the single version. These landmark compilations have introduced generations of fans to the incredible history of the most storied band in music. The worst aspect of this, is - even though, I don't like this music I can recognise all the songs from almost the first few notes that are played!

The tracks sound awesome, and even if you'll miss the one or two favs among them (I do, of course), it's still a brilliant compilation, together with its red sibling. Maybe the 1980 box will sound better, but it doesn’t have these great covers so I guess nobody wins. At one point I did like some of the tracks, but with over-exposure that feeling ended a long time ago.

And certain omissions aside, it does a fairly good job explaining why they were good and why they mattered. It's important to acknowledge that all negative remarks aside, The Beatles did have a pretty big impact on the music world as we know it today. Like its red counterpart, The Beatles 1962-1966, the Blue Album was brought to production swiftly as a response to an illegal two-volume, 120-song bootleg titled Alpha Omega which had been issued earlier in 1973.I still can’t believe the bootleggers behind this release had the nerve to advertise something so obviously illegal on TV! Correct me if I’m wrong, but sets with X/81 dates on the inner sleeves are from 1982, not 1984, and should have their own entry. The music I yearned to listen to was played in the small gaps that existed between the endless regurgitation of this . The mastering and pressing, apart from these small faults, are superb, these records will be among the few that could not be bettered.

Print advertising for the two records made a point of declaring them "the only authorized collection of the Beatles". So I was involved in that respect, in that package making sure that the cover was what I wanted and that the sound was done by George Martin. A routinely great artist, much of Sufjan's universal appeal comes from his skills as a gifted narrator, pairing personal musings on love and devotion with commentary on American culture, whilst welding folk and electronica, the ambient and existential.Strawberry Fields Forever" (non-album single, 1967 (UK); later included on Magical Mystery Tour LP, 1967 (U. The widespread belief that the boys' song-writing got better in the latter half the 60s rings quite true, as there is an abundance of bona-fide classic songs here - far too many to list all the highlights - but "Penny Lane", "Revolution", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "The Ballad of John and Yoko", "Come Together", "Something", "Let It Be", and (perhaps the most fitting closer ever to an album) "The Long and Winding Road" are eternal favourites. Songs performed by the Beatles as solo artists were also considered for inclusion, but like the cover songs on 1962–1966, limited space resulted in this idea having to be abandoned.
