Description

They’re commonly seen hovering from a height of 20 to 30m before rapidly swooping in to catch their prey. It bases its goal on four approaches, Halt extinctions, Protect habitat, Eliminate threats and to Build capacity. At one time it was common in summer over much of the southeast, but today it is found mostly in Florida and a few other areas of the deep south. At the time, ewes and lambs were still kept in the feeding field and seeing the kites swoop down and feed without harming the lambs helped assuage farmers' fears. Their feathers are generally a dark brown, gradually building to a golden brown colour on their heads; from which they get their name.

Gamekeepers have long had a troubled relationship with predators, including birds of prey, that they see as threat to the grouse and pheasants they raise for others to shoot. Today, there are more than 100,000 pairs, and they’re among the few birds of prey in the UK whose numbers are continually increasing.Measuring 48 to 56cm and with a wingspan of 115 to 130cm, Marsh harriers are compact raptors, though larger than other harriers. Small but deadly, the Sparrowhawk is a small to medium-sized bird of prey from the Accipiter family.
