Eric’s kind heart is obvious, as shown through his endearing friendships with George Harrison and Robin Williams, not to mention all the Pythons. Much of the book involves celebrity name-dropping and this gets tiresome, even as Idle admits to it. Evert doesn't care what others think of him, and comes out with the most outrageous ( though amusing ) comments.He's made a pledge to be more assertive but he remains a thoughtful, giving person and he and Evert complement each other perfectly. We also begin to see some chapters in Keller’s perspective, and we experience how he fell in love with Kate.

Beginnings always get more time and energy and attention than endings, which are often rushed, and middles, which can be a slog, a mirror of our lives, really. There is some humour about life around the care home and I particularly liked the saga of the appearing fruit. Time and again, this actor-singer has used her Instagram to speak out against body shaming and advocate kindness.The only thing he doesn't joke about, however, is his friend George Harrison's stabbing and later death from cancer. The set piece about being fired from (in her case, multiple) jobs was restorative, even years out from my own "restructuring" moment. Light-hearted and humourous as well as sad and sometimes depressing, Hendrik shows everyone that age is only a number – live each day to the fullest (then rest the next day to catch up before starting all over again) On the Bright Side is an entertaining and enjoyable follow-up to The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83¼ Years Old which I recommend.
