The scene tiles add a luck element – there are some rounds where the clues are too specific and the murderer doesn’t stand a chance. At any point a player can try and solve the crime by holding their badge up and stating “let me solve the crime” (this is also the only way you can interrupt a players pitch) If they guess correctly then the game is over.

During the Allies Phase, the Inside Man causes 1 other player to lose their Badge token before making a guess (they can choose themselves)! Each round, after an indeterminate amount of discussion, everyone’s supposed to go around and present their official hypothesis for weapon and clue within a 30 second time limit. Secret Hitler has come the closest to matching the enjoyment of The Resistance, but that’s mostly because it’s essentially a modification of that game, though not for the best. After the forensic scientist answers their questions, all other players, in turn, can: 1) Make a brief (around 30 seconds) explanation about who they think is the killer and which were their M.They have no way of knowing which is the Murderer and which is the Accomplice and they do not know how the crime was committed. And the good thing is, you are provided with nearly 300 evidence cards that can get dealt out in a myriad of different ways, so the risk of repetition is really very rare. The FS will then place one bullet token onto a word on each of the tiles that best points to the cards that the murderer chose. The premise is in the title: there’s been a murder and you’ve got to figure out who it is and how they did it.

New to Avalon is the powerful wizard Merlin, who can gaze into his crystal ball and learn the wrongdoers’ identities, but loses the game if they correctly name him at the end. While Avalon is superior to the original Resistance, the latter’s Hidden Agenda expansion makes the two games functionally identical by adding the Commander, a re-skinned Merlin.During the game, the Forensic Scientist is NOT allowed to hint to the solution with words, gestures, or eyes.
