Reading it felt like I was sitting in our front yard with my grandma, while she talked about the experiences that shaped her as a person and the lessons she learned along the way. You have always been a loving daughter and, while you will now have a family of your own, you will forever remain a part of our family.

I find the discussion on rape/sexual assault too short, missing out on most relevant parts and as some kind of rant. If you happen to be a lover of non-fiction books, with occasional splashes of poetry here and there - this would certainly be your go-to book. The charitable say in effect, 'I seem to have more than I need and you seem to have less than you need.

I understand your situation, and as you go forward with your life, I offer you this advice: move slowly and give your children enough time to adjust. My main issue with this collection was that it seemed unorganised and a fair few essays felt irrelevant. It seems like only yesterday that we welcomed you into the world, and now here we are, celebrating your first birthday. Angelou's book, Letter to My Daughter caught my eye immediately as I was browsing the shelves at Barnes and Noble. I will continue to provide you with opportunities to take risks so that you learn that you are in fact brave and a risk-taker. All great artists draw from the same resource: the human heart, which tells us all that we are more alike than we are unalike.And He will give you the instincts and discernment you need to make hard choices and face hard things in this life. I cannot explain in words about how happy I was at the moment when I heard from the doctor that I have been blessed with a baby girl. As your mommy, it is my greatest privilege and honor to watch you grow and learn and discover the world around you. I consider myself a minimalist, but twenty+ years later I still have a card from my Nana that is similar in nature. My soul should always look back and wonder at the mountains I had climbed and the rivers I had forged and the challenges which still await down the road.
