About this deal

In this monumentally moving story (keep the tissues at hand) of two lovers kept apart by tragicsecrets, Toon urges us to risk everything, to never play it safe when it comes to the heart, and to know that caring is always, always, worth the cost.

latest tackles the difficult subject of domestic violence with romantic tenderness and emotional heft.On her mother’s suggestion, Wren decides to fly out and spend the summer with her father, stepmother, and newly married half sister on their Indiana farm. I do wish there was a little more dialogue and alternating pov but overall this story was a beautiful one about love and forgiveness. stars rounded up because I didn't want to put this one down and when I had to put it down, I couldn't wait to get back to it. At first, IndyCar engineer Anders's taciturn and combative personality puts Wren off, but she warms to him when she learns his prickliness is driven by his concern for Jonas's poor mental health.

As I got to the middle things started to drag for me, not much was happening and I wasn’t really connecting with any of the characters. The split family dynamics and how feelings can be felt but maybe not seen as reason when talked about (read book for the answer to that sentence). Instead this book reads like it was written by someone who has never interacted with another human in their life. Enter Anders Fredericksen and Wren’s heart didn’t stand a chance as these two seemed to connect at first sight. The relationships are portrayed with compassion and honesty, and the author’s note at the end that explains Hoover’s personal connection to the subject matter is a must-read.From her relationship with her ex to her relationship with her dad and stepmum, her feelings towards her half sister and her sisters own relationship. Toon has constructed a very cozy, lived-in world of Indiana farms that's comforting both for Wren and the reader. Find the tissues and continue with a heavy, shattering secret that will have you weighing so many ways this could go. I know I will go back some day, if only to see them finding in each other the light they were struggling to catch on their own. I feel hard for this book about love, family, obligations, grief, expectations, moving on and second chances.

Toon smooths out that rough plot twist with highly readable, emotional prose and a focus on how familial relationships evolve over time. Their personal relationship took a long time to develop, which felt quite natural and I enjoyed the time taken to get there. Here is a quick description and cover image of book Only Love Can Hurt Like This written by Paige Toon which was published in Expected publication April 25, 2023. They meet on a rooftop in Boston on the night Ryle loses a patient and Lily attends her abusive father’s funeral.Toon tells the story from one end of the spectrum to another; heart-wrenching pain from secrets and hurts, then soaring love that fills the reader with joy.
