With energy consumption contributing towards climate change, it can be viewed as counterproductive to use more energy to try and keep us cooler. Still, if you want a fan for a large space and noise doesn’t matter, this one’s a keeper, and one of the few tower fans we’ve tested that can rival a pedestal fan on reach and range. When there’s high humidity, it’s hard for sweat to evaporate, so a fan doesn’t do much to help cool you. If you want a fan you can easily move about the house, this lightweight model (the lightest we tested) makes a good choice. This is important at night, where you may want a slower, more gentle and quieter fan speed, rather than roar of full cooling power. Plus, it’s operated with two AA batteries – which we were impressed to see were included – so it won’t need a daily charge. It’s worth pointing out that, though 30dB is very quiet, there are quieter fans (like the Duux above) and its 38 Watt motor is not the most powerful.A small desktop model is ideal if you want a breeze while working, but a larger tower fan would be better if you need to cool the kitchen or a bedroom shared by two people. Speed settings: Most fans have at least three settings, so you can adjust the amount of cool air you get, with some offering significantly more. While it won’t work too well if you’re sitting on the other side of the room – plus there’s no remote – it’s perfect for using at a desk, dinner or bedside table.

Get hold of a fan, however, and you can get a breeze going inside your home and make the temperature a bit more bearable.
