Description

Whilst yes, he did talk about this, he's going by his experiences and then telling you to interpret them and he does state this a few times in the book. The truth is James Smith has no real grasp on what he actually believes or at least he is uncomfortable trying to sell you his actual beliefs, this leads to a scattered and incoherent listen.

All in all an incredibly bland listen from a stereotypical personal trainer, providing absolutely no original thoughts or highlights. It reads more conversationally than I personally like from a non fiction book but I can see how this would be helpful for people who don’t normally read non fiction. If your looking for that book to help you plan your next step or looking for the push to chuck the traditional life in a follow your dreams this ones for you! ISBN: 9780008467029 Author: Smith, James Publisher: HarperCollinsPublishers Publication Date: 2nd September 2021 Imprint: HarperCollinsPublishers Cover: Paperback Dewey: 158.

He doesn’t narrate it that well, bit stilted but I do like him and imagine he’s bringing some of these concepts to a new audience. I purchased this title based on Jame’s Instagram content, which was mostly good humoured, punchy advice about wieght loss and approaches to life, these 1-4 min videos are entertaining yet informative, I have now learned through 6. Reality is he had a privileged upbringing, back packed around the world for a while and quickly became very successful and very wealthy. The book is part self development, part stories about James’s own development and part him adding definitions to words or phrases. Some of the aspects in the book were interesting and actually made me look at situations in my life differently.

To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose. James Smith is back to challenge everything you thought you knew about the path to fulfilment and happiness. The content too, is just awful, embarrassing almost, it makes me wonder who pushed it to publication. Not a Diet Book mercilessly takes down every fad diet, workout and health drink you have been sold and instead explains [James’] mission to make understanding weight-loss as two words – calorie deficit. That said, there are still some good stuff here, like the part about brain plasticity and growth mentality (ok, one good thing).

a communication chapter and how to talk to people just seemed to bang on about social media following, not hugely useful for the average person looking to sort their life out. With the utmost respect, to even see the people who reviewed this take it literally and stop reading his book because of it made me feel like they may have missed the point. For all ebook purchases, you will be prompted to create an account or login with your existing HarperCollins username and password. After reading the first book by James Smith, Not A Diet Book, I was immediately compelled to add this to my collection. From his Facebook Lives with Brian the bird in Bondi to a brief stint as a JSA member during the first Bali competition where I learned all I need to know to maintain and improve my fitness level. If you are looking for an easily digestible review of self improvement, and enjoy hearing personal stories, this might be the book for you! I’m sure I will dip in and out of it in the future for a bit of inspiration, as I do love James’s “why not? Just that "Don't compare yourself to others" "Know your values, what you want and what you don't want" He shares a lot of his own life-experiences and interests as well, making it come across like part memoir, part self-help too.

I think we all need to take more accountability for situations we find ourselves in and stop begrudging others. Good for perhaps a teenager or someone in their early twenties who aren’t sure on what route to take in their lives. I loved James first book and I follow the podcasts and Instagram so I was really looking forward to this book but very disappointed. It’s a really easy read - it’s over 250 pages but actually there’s a huge amount of white space, the font is relatively large and you could easily read it in a day or two. Honest, unapologetic and outspoken, yet erudite, authentic and endlessly passionate about exposing the toxic myths within diet culture, and committed to helping people to reach their goals and make positive change for good.Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). I agree with him on most basic fitness related issues such as obesity and how individuals should take ownership of their health and their life. Fantastic book if you’re looking for a kick up the arse or reassurance that you should do that thing you’re scared to do. The only possible reason why he abruptly kept quoting Einstein about the law of thermodynamics in a self improvement book is the effort to seem smarter even though “he didn’t do school”.
