Thanks for that video. I'm going to try setting the peaking display to low so that it might be a bit more accurate for me.

As promised here's a follow-up comparison shots between 7artisans 25mm f1.8, Sony FE28mm f2.0, Sony PZ 18-105 f4.0. Chromatic aberration (CA) is the lens' inability to focus on the sensor or film all colours of visible light at the same point. Severe chromatic aberration gives a noticeable fringing or a halo effect around sharp edges within the picture. It can be cured in software. I haven't really "tested" the bokeh, mainly because that's pretty low on my considerations in lens performance, but what I've seen through the finder has been smooth, with the 12 blade aperture providing those round blobs so many people adore, even when this lens is wide open. Finally, the metal bayonet mount is well made and the lens fits smoothly. There is absolutely no rotational play when the lens is mounted. I actually own two copies — Discover and Hengyijia for Fuji X mount and they are exactly the same design. This review will cover mainly Discover lens as that’s the one I used the most. As far as I can see, the lenses differ only in their defects, which are covered below. Today I thought I'd take it for a walk in one of our town's pleasant parks just to try it out. I'll post some images from that lens made a few hours ago. None of my pictures are earth shatteringly precious or even very interesting. In addition I had trouble finding focus using the outer focus ring on the lens - probably because my 74 year old eyesight isn't really top notch anymore nor am I used to, as I once was, manual focusing. However, IMHO, I find the lens quite acceptable and a little gem for the price. Though the offerings from Sony and Sigma generally offer a tiny bit more quality, this is often at the expense of a great deal more weight and bulk as well as a far higher price tag. I've found that my own camera bag now contains more Samyang glass than Sony, and I find that the results generally meet my expectations as an Alpha 7R III user. I use the 7Artisans on my X-E3. It's light, small enough & sharp when stopped down slightly. Very good for street photography.

You can give the magnifying assist feature another try. The E-M1 has a really nice EVF. So the experience will be much better than the one you had before. I received my lens on the 21st of this month when I watched the solar eclipse from my front walkway :-). Center sharpness is very good even wide open and hard to discern between the 7artisans vs. my Sony FE28mm F2.0. However corners are a complete different story. They are very soft wide open with vignetting and progressively get better to F8 - where it's pretty much gone. Sharpness might not be quite as crisp as a software corrected AF lens, but where this lens shines is in bokeh, build quality, form factor (the thing is TINY) and overall usability. To help with focusing, I use a DIY Sugru to mold a focusing tab on the focusing ring, it helps me quite a bit.

Mine arrived yesterday. Initial dinking around shows solid performance. I'll be trying it out at a concert tonight. I'll post results tomorrow. I noticed that aperture ring is quite off. I did a very simple non-scientific test — I set the camera on ISO 200, lens on f/2 and tuned the exposition compensation so that shutter speed falls on 1/100s. Then I switched lens to f/4, f/8 and f/16 to see what’s the shutter speed, expecting that it should go down by the factor of 4 (since I’m testing 2 stop differences). Results (sorry for the table look): | Aperture | f/2 | f/4 | f/8 | f/16 Get the latest photography news straight to your inbox by signing up to our newsletter. Newsletter Signup I like the short focus throw of the lens, it's less than 1/3 turn from infinity down to 0.6 feet. Not too short of a throw, but much better than many of my legacy macro lenses where you have to turn the ring almost 3/4 for full range. I also like the textured machining on either side of the focus ring, very nice to operate with one finger.

E 16-50 PZ, Green-ring APS-C 25mm F1.8 C-mount, Discover 25mm F1.8, Mini 25mm "F1.8" C-mount, Neewer 28mm F2.8Focusing ring is well dampened on the Discover lens. Focus throw is quite short (about one third of lens circumference) which makes manual focusing a bit challenging with larger apertures. On Hengyijia, dampening is a little bit looser which makes accidental misfocusing more frequent — sometimes I focused correctly, shot a picture and then at home I found out it’s far from focused correctly. I think that in the second between focusing and activating shutter I must have slightly altered the focus which in combination with very short focusing throw made a big difference in the photo sharpness.
