About this deal

It had real echoes of Tana French and reminded me of The Likenessespecially in the passages set in 1991 which were sepia toned and very lyrical.

I was still smiling, thinking about how funny we humans can be, and Kinsella’s skill at tapping into that. Compared to the well off, well educated and well travelled Grant, 19 year old Caitlin grew up on Magnetic Island, does bar work to make a living and has never travelled further than Brisbane, the state capital. But to Emma's chagrin, the handsome man on the plane turns out to be Jack Harper, CEO of her company. With time, of course, the frivolous and lighthearted relationship they have, blooms into something far more serious. Not to mention the whole revealing it on TV point, even if it led to good things and a better perspective for Emma.A 2019 film adaptation based on the book was directed by Elise Duran [4] and starred Alexandra Daddario and Tyler Hoechlin. movie makes a number of changes to the book by Sophie Kinsella, so we break down the biggest changes and what they mean.

She seemed sweet, but at times I wasn't sure where she was coming from, there was something 'going on' and I think the author was great in this confusion creating! Her second, I Came To Say Goodbye, takes the form of a letter from a grandfather to a Supreme Court judge. However, Emma did a lot of weird things and a lot of thinking in her pretty little head, which were very funny. Also because I really couldn't engage with either main character because, while I could feel compassion for them, they really weren't very likable. Thornbury is a character in itself and I loved the beautiful and lyrical passages which described it.Amongst the most famous and most beloved funny romance works of Sophie Kinsella, this book is frequently mentioned, and rightfully so. About midway through the novel I realized Emma was telling her story in present tense, which I don’t have any hard and fast rule against, as do some; my surprise came from the length of time it took to recognize. She’ll never see him again, and considering the terrifying circumstances, she’s allowed to lose her mind, right? She also captures nuance with some exclamation point usage that indicates Emma’s own self-awareness, and enough introspection that keeps her persona authentic.

This certainty makes her spill the beans to her next-seat neighbour – she tells him everything, and by that I mean everything – all her deepest and darkest secrets. Jack Harper is a flawed prince charming full of contradictions–a unique blend of rude and considerate, attentive and oblivious. We went 5-STAR CRAZY for this book, and now we can get it with this new cover, a ten years after epilogue and all sorts of cool extras! The once incredibly close Rachel and Lindsey haven’t spoken for 20 years, a seismic shift which has affected Lindsey ever since. If you’re also looking for something a little different to add to your reading catalog, I recommend, Can You Keep a Secret?

Can you Keep a Secret (2004), was also published under the name Sophie Kinsella, as were The Undomestic Goddess (2006), Remember Me (2008), Twenties Girl (2009), I've Got Your Number (2012), and Wedding Night (2013). So, naturally enough, she starts telling the man sitting next to her – quite a gorgeous American, but she’s too frightened to notice – all her innermost secrets. How she feels like a fraud at work – everyone uses the word ‘operational’ all the time but she hasn’t a clue what it means.
