About this deal

While I would not express things exactly as Allberry does in this book, I found it to be soundly biblical, warm, kind, and pastoral- a book worth recommending to any member of my church or anyone struggling with the Bible's clear teaching on homosexuality. Maybe not, but DNA analysis indicates that polygamy was the norm for long periods of human existence. Same-sex-attracted Christians today who are choosing God over sex and romance mirror the eunuch’s costly obedience and trust.

In the introduction, he says, "Above all I want people to how good Jesus is, in this area of life and in every area of life. Moore, Carl Trueman (author of The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self), and Jonathan Leeman (author of How the Nations Rage) all contribute one of those blurbs of praise at the beginning of this book which speaks to the solid theology found within. The Leviticus verses may have referred to men abusing boys, as opposed to sex between consenting adults.Christians, the church and the Bible seem to be out of step with modern attitudes towards homosexuality.

I hope frankly, that older more conservative Christians do read it and that, despite its faults, it can have a positive impact around the way we treat and speak about LGBT people/SSA in our churches. is fitting for Allberry’s pedigree: it is an explicit argument for the uncompromising abstinence of lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals while simultaneously decrying any and all practice of embodied queerness. Each section is answered in a few paragraphs, but the depth of the answer given is perfectly adequate for the posed question.I’m immensely grateful to Sam Allberry for writing this little book, in the Good Book Company’s new ‘Questions Christians ask’ series, for many reasons.

Anyone looking for that kind of thing would do well to read Jackie Hill Perry’s Gay Girl, Good God, as one such example. We also must be careful with our words and our tone because when we speak to people struggling with SSA, it is not a political issue, it’s a personal thing. Overall, an easily readible, gospel focused book, which will encourage all Christians that although this is a big question with real emotional weight, it is one that we can answer!Allberry clearly prefers the ESV translation, which includes narrow translations of the Greek where the NIV differs substantially. Union with Christ forever is what the earthly states of both marriage and singleness actually point to. Desires for things God has forbidden are a reflection of how sin has distorted me, not of how God has made me.

The Episcopal Church, and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) formally permitted the ordination of queer clergy in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013, respectively (*1). When an idol fails you, the real culprit turns out to be the person who has urged you to worship it— not the person who has tried to take it away. I believe that Allberry makes a necessary distinction here, because a believer who struggles with same sex attraction doesn’t need to find his or her identity in sexual desire, but in Christ. incredibly helpful, and I feel better equipped to answer both my own and others questions on the topic. This book is designed to help both Christians and non-Christians struggling with the Bible's teaching on this issue, whether they experience same-sex attraction themselves or not.last year, and while it was biblical in its content, it was somewhat less pastoral or compassionate than this. It also challenges the current culture narrative, which inextricably ties sexuality to personal identity, and he shows that the gospel is good news for everyone, whatever their sexual orientation. Many quotes of the Scriptures are cited in both the English Standard Version (ESV) and New International Version (NIV), the latter being cited to prove something that is never precisely articulated. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. He presents an excellent biblical case for there being only two options for the Christian: heterosexual marriage or celibate singleness.
