About this deal

inch Deluxe Terra-Cotta Top Plates, 7.5 inch Deluxe Terra-Cotta Top Plates, 7.5 inch Deluxe Terra-Cotta (1) The Roxul caused a smell as it first heated up, but this seems to be a one time occurrence. I’m pleased with the results of just the insulation, which slow down the heat loss. I’m thinking the metal plate will “air seal” the opening. Depending how high your property is and the builder/roofer/chimney sweep doing the work they might insist on scaffolding. Discuss this and any other hidden costs before entering into any agreement. The round circles are “dri wall adhesive” and the smooth white area is board. Dabs flatten when board is pressed against them

Many here will tell you manufactures listings / specs trumps code. To an extent that is correct.. What manufactures specs can not do, is make me sign off a direct connect, even though the outdated manual tells me it is ok, in the case of the cross-sectional code. Yes I can hide behind the manufactures specs and approve the direct connect in an exterior fireplace. The plate should be sealed around the edges of the stove pipe and have an access hate to enable the chimney to be swept. I never thought to ask the installer to do this because I was new to inserts at the time it was put in. (Though not new to wood heat in general, having grown up with a wood stove as our sole source of heat.)But I can't find any information as to WHY one might do this. Can someone shed some light on the situation please? I'm trying to determine if this is necessary (or at least beneficial) for my situation. Go to top of chimney and pull the liner up until the newly-attached vitreous pipe is “up the chimney a little, out of the way" so the closure plate can be fitted. Fill deep holes in wall with spare mortar or use "bonding" (used before plastering to fill crevices and holes). We then attached a piece of plywood to the underside of the 2 x1 and drilled 4 holes in the middle of the plywood. We screwed a vent over the holes to allow the chimney to breathe then placed the electric log burner in the hole.

Though of course, how much maintenance your setup requires depends on the type of fireplace you have. Then there is the issue of keeping as much heat in the "home space" as possible.... if the plate is properly installed, everything below it becomes part of the home space and the panels are purely decorative. Connect all the marks so that your layout will look very much line the top inside of your fireplace with a 1” extra lip around it.I wanted to know if there was a more permanent alternative? Maybe a register plate type fitting with a vent for ventilation? I've tried searching on-line and putting the job on mybuilder.com and ratedpeople.com but have had no response... not really sure where else to go.
